CIPhER Center for Innovative Pharmacy Education & Research

Foundations of Teaching & Learning

2:30-4:00 p.m., Monday, August 17, 2020, Via Zoom

In health science we transition between bench-top or clinical research and practice and vice-versa; we ask ourselves and our students to practice evidence-based medicine.  The same is true for education – we translate what we know from cognitive psychology, education and physiology into our classrooms.  There is a great deal of research pertaining to what works and what does not work with respect to student learning.  In this program, the facilitator will translate research from a variety of areas into practical application.  Participants will gain a better understanding of why things like the flipped classroom work and leave confident in their ability to design courses with key elements while having a bit of fun in the process.

Objectives:
  1. Describe the basic psychological underpinnings of learning and memory
  2. List the components of instructional design (e.g., objectives, assessments, learning activities, feedback)
  3. Explain the linkage behind instruction design and how humans learn

This program is part of Colloquium #1 for the Teaching and Learning Certificate (TLC) Program and is open to faculty and staff.

Target Audience:  This program is designed for all teaching faculty, preceptors and trainees who would like to learn more about the theory behind learning.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE:  Tuesday, August 11, at 5 p.m.
