Our memories fail us often. Sometimes these memory slips are simple and fairly innocuous like forgetting to pick up an item at the grocery store and other times, forgetting can be much more dire and even have serious consequences such as in a patient care setting. During this program, we will discuss forgetting in terms of classroom or experiential learning and answer questions like: What is a reasonable amount students will remember? Why do they forget? What can we do about forgetting? At the end of the session, participants will leave with strategies they can implement in their class, and maybe more importantly, systemically within a curriculum.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Explain why people [students] forget
- Develop realistic expectations for what students may remember after their course or experience is concluded
- Describe instructional or curricular activities to address the “forgetting challenge”

The University Of North Carolina Eshelman School Of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. ACPE program 0046-9999-19-423--L04-P/T provides 1.0 contact hour of continuing pharmacy education credit. To receive CE credit, participants must complete the CE attendance form and the online evaluation of the program (included in LECE which will open after the workshop). Statements of credit can be viewed and printed in CPE Monitor in approximately 2 to 3 weeks. **No partial credit will be available**
Event FAQ
- Lunch will be provided at 11:30 AM. in Beard 200. When you register, please indicate if you will attend the lunch session and include any dietary restrictions.
- Parking passes are available only for guests and visitors employed at locations outside of the UNC campus. Please bring your parking deck ticket to the event to receive a pass.
- A Zoom link will be provided prior to the program via a confirmation email for registrants who indicate they will attend the program remotely. We must be able to to tie your Zoom login to your registration (please use your name) in order to receive CE credit.
Presenter Information
Adam Persky received his B.S. in biology from Purdue University and a MS in exercise science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He completed his PhD in pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Florida and did an industry-sponsored postdoctoral fellowship in pharmacokinetics/ pharmacodynamics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and GlaxoSmithKline. Currently, he is a clinical professor and faculty fellow in CIPhER at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Within the pharmacy school, Persky teaches physiology and pharmacokinetics and has received several of the School’s teaching awards, including Best Overall Instructor. Persky was named an Atlantic Coast Conference Teaching Scholar during the program’s inaugural year and has been named a Distinguished Teaching Scholar by the American Associations of College of Pharmacy. He is the associate editor for the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education and on the editorial board for College Teaching. He has given over 100 workshops across the country and has numerous publications on a variety of topics related to teaching and learning.
