Chatting and Cheating: What Do We Do About Academic Dishonesty?


 
Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. Eastern Time via Zoom
 
Academic dishonesty remains a high priority concern within pharmacy education, which has been compounded recently by the rise of artificial intelligence (e.g., ChatGPT). In this session, participants will engage in dialogue and reflect on issues related to academic dishonesty. Participants will explore the motivations behind why some students choose to cheat and what impact this may have on their future within the pharmacy profession.
 
Learning Objectives:  At the end of the program, participants will be able to:
  1. Explore student motivations behind academic dishonesty
  2. Discuss the impact of artificial intelligence (e.g., ChatGPT) on academic dishonesty
  3. Examine strategies used to reduce breaches of academic integrity
  4. Identify resources and references for additional support
 
Target Audience:  This program is designed for all faculty, staff, preceptors, post-graduate trainees, and students.
 
Registration: For non-UNC affiliates, registration is $15.00.  (UNC affiliates are faculty, staff, trainees, students, preceptors and residents who currently work for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or support its students.)
 
REGISTRATION DEADLINE for the live/streamed program is Monday, May 8th at 5 p.m.

The University Of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. ACPE program  0046-9999-23-117-L99-P provides 1.0 contact hours of continuing pharmacy education credit. To receive CE credit, participants must verify attendance, and complete the evaluation form(s) of this program. Participants must provide their name, email address, NABP e-Profile ID, and date of birth (MMDD) to receive credit. Statements of credit can be viewed and printed in CPE Monitor in approximately 2 to 3 weeks. It is the participant’s responsibility to check CPE Monitor to verify credit has been uploaded. If credit is not shown please contact the provider **No partial session credit will be given**

Kathryn A. Morbitzer, PharmD, MS
Assistant Director for the Center for Innovative Pharmacy Education and Research
Kathryn Morbitzer, PharmD, MS, is an assistant professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education, assistant director of the Center for Innovative Pharmacy Education & Research (CIPhER), and assistant director of the MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a concentration in Health-System Pharmacy Administration program at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Wayne State University and her Master’s in biomedical and health informatics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at the Medical University of South Carolina and an academic research fellowship at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Currently, her research focuses on expanding pharmacy student opportunities for impact in health care through the study of non-direct patient care (nonclinical) experiences and career pathways and on improving teaching and student learning.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Amanda C. Savage, PharmD
Clinical Assistant Professor
Amanda C. Savage, PharmD, is an assistant professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She received her PharmD from UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2003 and spent 13 years in community practice in Western North Carolina. As a faculty member, her efforts have been focused in teaching: course coordination and development, didactic teaching and small group facilitation. Her main research interests include development and implementation of objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs).
